Embodied Sound Practice: Practitioner Diploma
Bespoke (LIVE ONLINE or IN-PERSON)
This practitioner diploma is currently being carefully shaped to reflect a more embodied, relational, and ethically grounded approach to working with sound.
Embodied Sound Practice: Practitioner Diploma is intended as a process of practitioner formation, rather than a prescriptive or technique-led training programme. It is designed for practitioners who wish to take full responsibility for offering sound-based work independently, including one-to-one and group contexts, and who are ready to be held to practitioner-level accountability.
This is not an introductory or experiential course, and it is not offered as a linear progression from foundational learning. It is a selective, mentored qualification process involving sustained engagement, reflective inquiry, supervised practice, and case-based assessment.
Who this practitioner diploma is for
This diploma is intended for practitioners who:
- Already work with people in a professional, therapeutic, educational, or facilitative capacity
- Have developed foundational, listening-led sound awareness through prior study or experience
- Are ready to take responsibility for offering sound-based work as a stand-alone practice
- Are willing to engage in a slow, reflective, and ethically rigorous formation process
- Understand that sound practice involves discernment, restraint, and professional judgement
Entry is guided by readiness, professional context, and mutual discernment, rather than automatic progression or completion of specific levels.
Current status
This practitioner diploma is not currently open for enrolment while its structure, scope, and assessment framework are being carefully finalised to ensure alignment with embodied practice, ethical responsibility, and appropriate professional standards.
For those who have completed Level 1, the current next offering is Reflective Mentoring, which provides deeper individualised support for integrating sound within existing contexts and offers space for discernment around future practitioner directions. Reflective mentoring is a complete offering in its own right and does not guarantee or promise access to diploma study.
Formation approach & learning format
When offered, the Practitioner Diploma will be delivered through a mentored, formation-based approach, rather than a fixed curriculum.
Learning will be shaped through:
- Embodied listening and responsive sound practice
- Ethical and relational awareness
- Reflective inquiry grounded in lived experience
- Supervised and mentored engagement over time
Study may be offered:
- Live online, or
- In person where appropriate
The emphasis is on judgement, responsibility, and practitioner presence, rather than prescriptive methods or formulaic sound delivery.
Working with individuals and groups
Practitioner-level formation includes engagement with both individual and group contexts.
Group work focuses on:
- How sound is held rather than delivered
- Sensitivity to environment, pacing, consent, and choice
- Awareness of difference in perception and response
- Ethical decision-making in live group settings
Sound-based group experiences (sometimes referred to as “sound baths”) are approached as relational and contextual practices, not as standardised formats.
Qualification & professional scope
Upon successful completion of all requirements, participants may qualify in Embodied Sound Practice.
Completion is subject to:
- Sustained participation over time
- Submission of reflective, case-based work
- Mentor/supervisor confirmation of readiness
- Demonstration of ethical judgement and scope awareness
This diploma supports practitioner qualification and may support applications for professional insurance to offer stand-alone sound-based work, subject to individual insurer terms and requirements. Insurance approval is not guaranteed and remains the responsibility of the practitioner.
CPD option
Elements of this practitioner formation may also be undertaken as Continuing Professional Development (CPD) for those wishing to engage in advanced reflective learning without completing the full diploma requirements.
The CPD route does not confer practitioner qualification or authorisation for independent practice.
Entry considerations
Entry will normally require:
- Prior foundational learning in listening-led sound practice (such as Level 1 or equivalent)
- Existing experience working with people
- Willingness to engage in mentoring and reflective assessment
Instrument ownership is not required prior to entry. Guidance on appropriate instruments will be offered as part of the formation process.
